Ada - Progress report

Hey Guys! Ada here. I've been so busy trying to get big and strong that I haven't had a chance to update you on my progress in a bit. Recently, I started having some issues regurgitating food which was very frustrating for my Doctors and Foster family. They were very worried that the stricture in my esophagus had not been fixed with my surgery. They took some special radiographs which showed that although my esophagus is the normal size (no stricture!) its not moving the food into my stomach like it should. This means that I could have a condition called "Megaesophagus". I may always need to be fed a little differently than a normal dog but I'm hopeful that someone out there won't let that deter them from giving me a home when I'm ready. I wanted to include a few pictures of my feeding routine.

This is the HARDEST part for me. To learn good manners - and to help me eat slowly, I must first sit and wait for my food.

Then, I stand up on an object (like this stool) so that when I eat gravity can help the food travel down my esophagus into my stomach. If I do indeed have megaesophagus then I could have something called a "Bailey's Chair" made for me that allows me to eat in an upright position - but I'll talk about that later.

To keep me from eating too much too quickly, I'm fed only a small bite of a softened food at a time. And when it's all gone -- I get to lick the bowl clean. I stay in an upright position for a few minutes to make sure everything makes it into my tummy.

Everybody send good thoughts my way; I sure hope that I can eat like a normal dog someday!
